Trip to the village of Chemal and the scenic viewpoint at Mount Sinyukha
The village of Chemal is located 100 km from Gorno-Altaisk. It is famous for its healing air thanks to relict pine forest. You will learn about a female skete (a monastic community), visit the rocky island of Patmos and the Church of St. John the Theologian, walk along the "Goat trail" over the Katun river.
On the way back to Gorno-Altaisk you will visit Manzherol Mountain Resort complex and take the gondola lift up the scenic viewpoint at Mount Sinyukha (a new lift opened to the public on September 7, 2019).
Cost: 1000 RUB including a ticket to the gondola lift.
3-day technical excursion to Katunskiy Biosphere Reserve
Participants will visit Ust-Koksa area, located at altitude of 1000 m a s l (330 km far from Gorno-Altaisk). On the way to Ust-Koksa major ecosystems of the Altai Mountains will be discovered. Upon arrival there will be excursion to the central office of Katunskiy BR, where you will learn about management of the Russian-Kazakhstan Transboundary Biosphere Reserve “Great Altai”. On the next day there will be a day trip on snowmobiles to the ranger station of the reserve at the Lake Srednemultinskoe (1650 m a s l). Participants will explore winter life in mountains, learn about nature protection activities and development of ecotourism, meet and communicate with the rangers of the BR.
During the third day there will be an excursion to the local museums of Russian Old-Believers and Roerich’s expedition to Central Asia. You will learn about BR’s projects on conservation of cultural heritage and on sustainable development of local communities. After the lanch – departure to Gorno-Altaisk.
